Even Children Can Journal - Here a 2nd Grader Talks About His Personal Journal

Journaling as an approach to health and healing

Listen to Melissa Explain the Writing Technique to Inner Understanding in these Videos.

Why in the world would you take time to journal?

  • Identify your inner thoughts by writing them down.
  • Document your biographical and health information
  • Work out relationship issues by seeing them clearly on paper.
  • Record your healing journey
  • Like writing letters, you can resolve issues from the past
  • When travel the road of life, we can map it out
  • Writing is a creative and emotional release

How much time should I take to write in my journal?

  • You may want to begin with a very short amount of time, say five minutes, but this particular method calls for at least 15 minutes. It really moves quickly.

When is the best time to journal?

  • Many people prefer to journal at night just before bed when the mind if full from the day's activities. Writing helps to release thoughts and help you sleep more soundly.
  • Other people like writing first thing in the morning after rest. Then they can also record their symbolic dreams.
  • Sometimes making notes during midday, at lunch time helps to solve problems and release the immediate stresses of the day.

What is the definition of Journaling?

  • Journaling is a process of self questioning and finding answers. Find out what self talk and inner conversations bubble through your mind and affect your level of peace. When you are aware and understand, a healing takes place. When you give yourself little time to intellectualize thoughts by writing non-stop within a time limit you begin a 'stream' of thought that is almost like going into trance or channeling your source energy.

Can anybody do this technique?

  • Yes. Even young children can sit and write, dictate to a parent their thought, or talk into a tape recorder. This is a great way for a guardian to become closer to a child and get insight into their thoughts and actions.
  • Teenagers love journaling and keeping a private diary. During turmoil and tumultuous times, journaling allows deep emotions to come to the surface through the written word.

Review What You've Written

Making Connections Between Our Inner World and The Language We Use To Describe Our World

Connecting our emotional, physical, mental and spiritual selves.

  • When we look over our writing we can review words that tell more deeply and symbolically what we feel.
  • Through a number of methods of review we can find different aspects of our lives come into view.

The Art and Science of Homeopathy

  • Trained homeopaths learn how to listen objectively to the energetic language of the individual.
  • Practicing short journal exercises we can come into these insights when we know what to look for upon review and analysis. This way we can help ourselves understand deeper levels of what is at the root of our illness or discomfort.
  • Whether we realize it or not, all these levels are part of us. We experience life physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.

What Kingdom Does This Sound Like?

Don't Wait Another Minute: Get Out Your Pen and Paper Now

The Writing Exercise

  1. Write about a problem that is bothering you or an issue you want to target.
  2. Write without thinking or judging. Just write for 15 minutes straight. Use a timer.
  3. During this session, any time you run out of what to say, read over what you have already written. Ask yourself, "What do I mean by . . ." and pick out a word or phrase that stands out to you." Continue this method until the time is up.

Step Two is Analyzing What Has Been Written

  1. Read what your wrote out loud.
  2. Using a marker or colored pen underline any words that stand out strongly.
  3. Make list of all the marked words.
  4. Group the words that mean the same thing or have similar ideas.
  5. The Information Below Helps Explain the level of your interactions.
  • If the words are mainly about your life, telling a story. Then you live at FACT LEVEL.
  • If the words have strong emotion, then you live at EMOTION LEVEL.
  • If the words are mainly imagery, then you live your life with VISION LEVEL.
  • If the words are mostly feelings or sensations, then you live at SENSATION LEVEL.
  • If most of the words seems like nonsense or describes qualities of a substance, then you live life at ENERGY LEVEL.

Another way to analyze:

  • You can also group what verbs, adverbs, adjectives and nouns repeat and what similar types of descriptions come up.

“Homeopathy can access more intelligence, more creativity and more awareness so that your personal evolution speeds up.”

Step Three: Circle the Universal Language

  • Universal language are words that are not related to emotions.
  • Personality and illness can be related to hereditary.
  • There is a way to understand the ‘coping mechanisms’ that we use when under stress through the writing exercise.
  • One way to view this whether a person feels panic, or to hide their deficiency or problem, or even try to control the issue. There are a number of coping mechanisms.
  • When you go back to review the writing exercise, you can look for the coping mechanism and see if this applies to how you deal with everything stressful in your life.

Step Four: Analyze for the Kingdom

  • Go back and review your writing exercise for words that relate to the three major kingdoms: Plant, mineral or animals.
  • Since homeopathic remedies come from substances from the kingdom, there could be a pattern impression within the words written.

  1. Plants often use sensation language of pain - like sharp, cutting, hot, stinging, rough, etc.
  2. Minerals often sound like there is a structure and/or something is lacking in a person's life.
  3. Animals often sound like there is victim and prey language.

When a homeopath does a case interview they are listening to the language to see if the individual’s language reflects a particular kingdom.

Writing As A Healing Technique

Personal Insight

  • Even without homeopathic treatment, you can learn to understand the symbolic meaning of your personal writing.
  • By grouping the words and phrases you can see a theme develop.
  • Allow yourself to write unencumbered by judgment.
  • Allow the unconscious to surface.
  • You will begin to recognize deep emotions, beliefs, and sensations.
  • As these thoughts bubble up to the surface they will be release for evaluation and healing.

“Whatever you are saying is your reality and is your relationship to the universe. This reality and relationship is what the homeopath is seeking to understand.”

Do you want to go further in this journey?

  • Find an experienced homeopath who has been trained in understanding this method of recognizing the levels of symbolic language.
  • There are homeopathic courses and workshops both locally and through distance study around the globe if you want to become proficient.
  • Work with a trusted friend to review each others writings.

Great hub! I wish more people understood how powerful journaling can be. Whether they adopt your particular approach or not, it is clear that unconstrained writing followed by an analysis can give people insight into their own personality and problems. The exercise of writing as you describe helps our inner thoughts sneak by the mental censor the Freud first identified.

Journaling is useful in so many ways. I think it can be a great tool for the recovering alcoholic. The recovering alcoholic must confront himself and the hurt he/she has caused others. Your approach might be a way to confront the past and continuing the healing.
